United Way Parntership
The partnership between the American Red Cross and the United Way of Summit County began more than 60 years ago, and since that time we have worked together to raise funds for vital health and human services for the citizens of Summit County. We are truly fortunate to have a strong United Way, with a reputation for integrity and the ability to bring the collective resources of our community together to solve problems and improve lives. We are proud to stand beside United Way and support its mission of improving lives by mobilizing community resources to advance the common good.
In 2008, United Way initiated a 10-year program designed to achieve the following goals by 2018:
- Improve education, and cut the number of high school dropouts — 1.2 million students, every year — in half.
- Help people achieve financial stability, and get 1.9 million working families — half the number of lower-income families who are financially unstable — on the road to economic independence.
- Promote healthy lives, and increase by one-third the number of youth and adults who are healthy and avoid risky behaviors.
The goals of United Way are ambitious, but with the help of dedicated volunteers, the American Red Cross, and by utilizing United Way's core strengths — a national network, committed partners and public engagement capacity — that goal can be achieved.
